Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band asked me to follow them at the fifth Honk!, a festival of activist street bands. The best word to describe that weekend has to be “Epic”. We started off with a pre-festival wedding, officiated by Chuck himself:

Emperor Norton’s then took the main stage at Statue Park right in the middle of Davis Square. It wasn’t until later when we saw video someone had posted on Youtube just how many people were crammed into Davis for it!

There was a second set that night just outside of Davis. After ENSMB finished their first set, they moved onto the playground for a few more!

The following day was the parade from Davis Square down Mass Ave to Harvard Square. They had even more stilt dancers (from Mortal Beasts and Deities), spinners, jugglers, and dancers than the previous day!

Copal recently released their newest album, “Into the Shadow Garden”. The lineup for their release party in Cambridge was excellent – Bury Me Standing, Sxip Shirey, and performances by the Vadalna Tribal Dance Company during Copal’s set.
